CELEBRATE WORLD TOURISM DAY WITH A GUIDED TOUR AT GALERÍA CANALEJAS TO REDISCOVER THIS CENTRE FROM A NEW PERSPECTIVE

September, 27, 2022

After spending a decent amount of time in a city, you might realise that you actually know very little about its history despite having walked its streets a hundred times. Then you might see tourists in Madrid enjoying a guided tour to learn about the city’s history and think it’s not such a bad idea.

To celebrate World Tourism Day, Galería Canalejas is teaming up with the Professional Association of Tour Guides of Madrid (APIT) to create a partnership agreement under which to offer an exclusive guided tour service around the incredible cultural and historic heritage of the seven monumental buildings that house the Centro Canalejas Madrid.

A wonderful treat that you probably haven’t tried for yourself yet! Whether you live in Madrid or not, you can book this tour to explore Galería Canalejas inside and out while learning about the city’s history. It’s like travelling through time from 1900 to the modern day. You will also learn about other great icons of the city, such as the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Art, the Casino and the Palacio de la Equitativa of 1887, which now houses the boutique run by the French maison Hermès.

Your journey begins in Calle Alcalá to discover the buildings that decorate this iconic part of Madrid, as well as the important banks that once surrounded Galería Canalejas, such as the Banco Español de Crédito, the Banco Zaragozano, the Banco Hispanoamericano and the Banco Santander.

You will learn about every detail on the exterior of Galería Canalejas by observing its impressive façade from 1902 and then discover some of the more than 17,000 historic pieces dotted around the building’s interior that have been painstakingly restored: safes, original keys and a skylight, among many others.

Whether you’re looking for something different to do, appreciate architecture or are just curious about the capital’s past, these guided tours are for you. More details can be found under Guided Tour in the Visit Galería Canalejas section of our website.
